Parenting Triggers: Why We “Lose It” (yell, check out, get brain fog, … ) and How We Can Get it Back
Saturday, November 15, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, Eastern US
IN-PERSON Chestnut Ridge, NY
Most of us had some idea of the kind of parent or caregiver we wanted to be. Then we became parents and things didn’t always look or feel the way we expected.
We are good parents and caregivers… who sometimes have a hard time.
When we get stressed, angry, or scared, we can get triggered and say or do things we regret. Usually we associate being “triggered” with getting angry, but triggers can show up in many ways… snapping, yelling, shutting down, going numb, cloudy thinking, inability to make decisions, etc. Sometimes we revert to patterns that we swore we didn’t want to pass on to our kids. Someone else’s voice comes flying out of our mouths.
Then we feel bad, because this was not what we had in mind and not how we planned to be with our children. The truth is that the worse we feel, the more alone we feel, the more likely these patterns are to pop up again. And again.
There are very real reasons why this keeps happening.
You are not alone, and you are not a bad parent.
You deserve good support. You deserve compassion and kindness. You can find solutions for these “triggers” or “hot spots.” You can shift. You can heal. You can change generational patterns. You can feel more confident about your parenting.
This class will offer insight into why this happens. You’ll learn strategies for shifting this dynamic in the moment, how to get at the root causes for long term change, and how to repair with your loved ones when you go off track.
