Parenting as a Team No Matter What Your Living Situation; a Class for Couples and Co parents

Can be either a 1 or 2 hour class

Parenting can be stressful for even the healthiest relationships. Most parents go in and out of periods when they’re getting along and when they’re not. If there are systems in place they can still parent well, even in the most stressful situations.
During this interactive class we’ll discuss:

  • How to set parenting goals together
  • Being a support system for each other
  • Helping each other notice when you get triggered and your parenting is off
  • Discovering what the other parent needs to be the best parent they can be
  • How to handle it when your philosophies clash
  • How to continue to parent well together when you, as a couple, are in crisis
  • Several communication strategies for even the most trying situations

Encouraging Loving Sibling Friendships

Can be either a 1 or 2 hour class

The sibling relationship can be a complex one. Siblings experience exclusion, jealousy, competition, anger, teasing, and having to share things and people. There is also unlimited potential for close, loving relationships that last a lifetime. Many people describe their brothers or sisters as their best friend. This class will give you some ideas to help support your children’s connection. (Great information for blended families as well!)
You will:

  • Examine your own childhood relationships and how they might affect the current situation
  • Learn how to understand validate your children’s feelings
  • Reduce competition
  • Learn playful ways to build the bond and to reconnect after a storm
  • Learn the difference between ‘equal’ and ‘unique’

Playful Parenting, based on the book by Lawrence J. Cohen, Ph.D.

Eight week series

If you feel stuck when it comes to playing with your child, this is DEFINITELY the class for YOU!! We will read Larry Cohen’s game changing book and apply the principles and ideas he shares. In this highly interactive class you will gain the following:

  • Through play, increase cooperation and reduce power struggles with your child
  • Establish a special bond that can last through adulthood
  • Find ways to build strong connection and self confidence in your child and they will, in turn, be better equipped to do so with other adults and children in their lives
  • Gain a better understanding of the unique person that is your child
  • Learn how to use play as a way to release built up tension, and for emotional healing
  • Find out why it can be so hard for you as a parent to play spontaneously, and learn how to remove that block
  • Remember how FUN parenting can be and that when parenting is fun, life is much easier!

Other topics covered: wrestling, discipline, gunplay, dealing with strong emotions, and recharging your own battery.

 Tantrum Training

Three week series, includes online classroom, discussion, weekly meetings, 4 audio booklets, and training manual

In this class we’ll focus in depth on your child’s most passionate emotional moments and the complex feeling they bring up in you. We’ll look at what tantrums are, what they mean, and how you can respond so that your child’s tantrums actually help her, and you. You’ll get some new ways to think about tantrums. Rather than just gritting your teeth through the emotional storm, you’ll be glad to see them come, knowing that a closer connection and a more peaceful child are on the other side.

“I’m a Person Too, You Know!”; Respectful Guidance

Can be either a 1 or 2 hour class

When children ‘act out’ they need our help, understanding, and guidance to get back on track. Many parents feel at a loss, not wanting to resort to punishment, but not knowing what to do instead. During this class we’ll discuss the paradigm shift; how does it feel to be two (3, 5, 8…), and how we can build a respectful relationship while helping them make smart, healthy choices for themselves.

How Children Cry, Laugh, Tantrum, and Rage to Think Better

Can be either a 1 or 2 hour class

We know that plenty of water, exercise, sleep, and good nutrition are essential to help the brain function at its best. We are now finding that healthy connection and emotional release may be just as important.
In this class you’ll learn:

  • What brain research tells us about the importance of emotional development
  • How to recognize the signs that children need emotional release
  • The different forms emotional release may take
  • How staying close during these storms or “tantrums” actually builds connection and helps children be more cooperative, flexible, and thoughtful
  • How to listen well and to get the support you need to do this highly challenging and rewarding work

Raising Earth Friendly Children

Can be either a 1 or 2 hour class

As parents we have a responsibility to teach our children to be thoughtful of the Earth, just as we are responsible to teach them to read, write, care for their bodies, and be thoughtful of other people. It begins at home. Research shows that children who are connected to nature early in life benefit in many ways. As they experience nature they become more aware and respectful of the living planet that is their home. This workshop will provide you with practical ways of tuning in to nature with your child and growing a lifelong love of the environment.

Hand in Hand Starter Class aka Parenting by Connection Class

6 week series, includes online classroom, discussion board, weekly meetings, 7 audio booklets, and training manual

This is a great class for people who are looking to gain a deeper relationship with their child.
We’ll discuss the following topics, Connection is Key!!

  • What makes it difficult to sustain connection in today’s society and how to counteract that dynamic
  • Building support for yourself that enables you to parent in a way that is more satisfying for you
  • Understanding children’s (sometimes baffling) emotions
  • Why we “lose it” with our children and how to get it “back together”
  • Why children’s behavior goes “off track” (aggression, isolation, separation anxiety, ‘anti-social’ behavior, whining, etc.) and how to help them
  • Setting limits; how and why
  • How listening ACTUALLY BUILDS intelligence
  • The brain research that supports this kind of parenting
  • Time in vs. Time out
  • Developing an individual connection plan for each of your children
  • Using play and laughter to build bridges
